Bennet on BLM Methane Rule Repeal: Only Harm for Colorado

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today issued the following statement in response to the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) announcement rolling back the Methane and Waste Prevention Rule.

"I'm disappointed to learn that BLM did not listen to the people of our state and went ahead with this rollback even after the Senate rejected it," Bennet said. "Today's decision only has downsides for the people of Colorado. It will lead to more pollution, waste more natural gas, and decrease revenue for taxpayers. Worst of all, it will put the health of our communities at risk."

In March 2018, Bennet led a bicameral group of Western lawmakers in urging Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to hold public hearings and extend the comment period prior to any revision of the methane rule.

In May 2017, Bennet cast the fifty-first vote in a 49-51 vote count, defeating a Senate resolution to repeal the methane rule.
