Representative Darby serves on the House tax cutting committee where he is working to reverse the trend of skyrocketing property taxes on our families. He wrote and passed new laws to help homeowners fight their appraisals. To lower the tax burden on homeowners, he has authored legislation to increase the state's responsibility to fund schools, stopping the shift to local taxpayers. His plan calls for cutting school tax rates and eliminating the "Robin Hood" school finance scheme that redistributes tax dollars to other parts of the state. To bring further relief, the Legislature must stop unfunded mandates on our cities, counties, community colleges. And we must provide homeowners greater transparency, tools to fight their individual tax bills, and the power to veto large tax increases.
