Thomas is a four time Expert Marksman with both the rifle and pistol in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is also a proud gun owner and a sportsman. He is a strong supporter of the Constitutional right to bear arms.
In his first term, Thomas supported a number of bills to protect and expand the 2nd Amendment. This included voting in favor of Constitutional Carry and reducing the penalty for carrying a concealed weapon with a recently expired Concealed Pistol License (CPL) from a felony to a fine. Thomas also co-sponsored a bill to allow military personal with a valid CPL to carry on property under the authority of the Adjutant General of the Michigan National Guard.
