Harder Statement on Governor Newsom's Changes to State Water Board, Appointment of Bill Lyons to Ag Liaison

Statement

Date: Feb. 12, 2019
Location: Modesto, CA

Following Governor Newsom's latest announced appointments to his Administration, Rep. Josh Harder released the following statement:

"I am pleased that Governor Newsom has listened to my calls to give the Central Valley a greater say in our state's water policy. Water is the lifeline of the Central Valley, affecting almost every aspect of our lives--from our families at home to the farmers in the field. That is why I stressed to the Governor that when it comes to water, the Central Valley must have a seat at the table.

Governor Newsom's selection of Bill Lyons to Agriculture Liaison is exactly what the Central Valley needs -- he is an accomplished farmer, businessman, conservationist, and local leader who will bring a depth of water and agricultural policy knowledge to the Newsom Administration.

The Governor's changes to the State Water Board are also an important step in showing that the Central Valley is a high priority for his Administration. The Board's decisions have massive implications for my district, so I urge the Board to listen to the needs of the Central Valley. I look forward to working with our state officials to bring sensible solutions to expand our water supply, better manage our existing water resources, ensure access to clean drinking water, and help our communities prepare for droughts."
