Today, Congresswoman Haaland (NM-01) voted in favor of H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, a measure that aims to curb gun violence by requiring every gun buyer to get a background check even at gun shows. H.R. 8 passed on the U.S. House Floor today, and now moves to the U.S. Senate.

"Students in my district are afraid to go to school and violent crimes committed with a gun are affecting our communities," said Congresswoman Deb Haaland, a cosponsor of H.R. 8. "Young people are leading the way and demanding solutions -- we have a responsibility to our communities, and we must act on effective, common sense solutions to address gun violence."

After a school shooting threat at Cleveland High School this month, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) joined students and faculty at a pep rally to discuss solutions to address gun violence, and met with students advocating for their safety in her district office.
