Re-entering the Paris Agreement Would Wreck Our Economy

Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 9, the U.S. Energy Disadvantage Act:

"Getting back in the Paris Agreement would wreck our economy. These extreme environmentalist policies hit low-income Americans the hardest because they increase energy costs and take away the cheap electricity that low-income Americans rely upon to heat and cool their homes. Estimates also show that complying with Paris Agreement commitments would cost the U.S. up to 2.7 million jobs by 2025. Those jobs would go to countries like China and India, who emit significantly more carbon than us, and who are allowed to increase their emissions until 2030 under the terms of the agreement. Despite spending billions on energy initiatives, not a single European Union country is in compliance with their Paris Agreement commitments. It's a disgrace that Democrats have voted to force us back into this unfair and unrealistic agreement."
