Energy Efficiency Bill, Authored by Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Clears Energy Subcommittee

Today, the House Energy and Commerce Energy Subcommittee unanimously approved Congresswoman Kelly's legislation to increase funding for energy efficiency investments in government-owned buildings.

"Just like a family insulates walls and windows to save money in the winter, the government should be doing the exact same thing: because it works, because it saves money and because it's green," said Congresswoman Kelly.

Her legislation, H.R. 2119, would more than triple funding for energy efficient public buildings.

"It's imperative that we continue working to reduce energy utilization, protect our planet and save taxpayer dollars. This bill does all three things in a simple, commonsense way that will help make the federal government a leader in green building technologies and application," added Congresswoman Kelly. "Additionally, investing in energy efficiency reduces the long-term cost to American taxpayers by saving energy and reducing the operational and maintenance costs associated with operating the building."
