U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) introduced my legislation extending Small Business Administration programs to the Marianas as a Senate companion bill on Thursday. The Northern Mariana Islands Small Business Act, H.R. 2603 in the House and now S. 2190 in the Senate, makes entrepreneurs or those interested in starting their own business in the Marianas eligible for microloans from SBA. Senator Hirono's support is especially important because she serves as a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, which is expected to mark up legislation reauthorizing SBA programs next week.
