Burgess Votes to Approve USMCA Trade Agreement

Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the United States Mexico and Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA).

"After years of asking for a rewrite of NAFTA, the House of Representatives has finally delivered a vote of approval for a new trade agreement," Burgess said. "Thank you to President Trump for delivering on the promise to provide a better deal for farmers, manufacturers, and all Americans."

"I appreciate Republican Leader of the Ways and Means Committee and fellow Texan Kevin Brady for his leadership in getting this passed. Mexico is Texas' biggest trading partner. The USMCA increases opportunities for all Texans and keeps our economy strong."

The passage of USMCA is a win for the American economy because it will:

-Brings an estimated 176,000 new jobs.
-Increases the GDP by one percent.
-Creates a level playing field for manufactures.
-Expands fair trade for American Farmers.
-Modernizes the NAFTA for the 21st Century.
