Statement

Date: Dec. 20, 2019
Location: Washington D.C.

Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services finalized a rule to ensure that health insurance plans sold through Obamacare exchanges are transparent about whether premiums would be used to cover elective abortion services. Hoeven joined a bicameral group inurging the administration to finalize this change and bring the plans into compliance with the law, which requires that insurance companies providing such coverage must collect and deposit a separate premium payment.

"Consumers deserve to know what they're paying for," said Hoeven. "The previous administration ignored statutes that protected against Obamacare enrollees unknowingly subsidizing elective abortions. We appreciate the administration for heeding our call to correct this serious issue."
