Rep. Delgado Statement on the Administration's Budget Proposal

Statement

Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) released the following statement in response to the Administration's proposed budget:

"The Administration's proposed budget is an affront to economic security as it plainly fails to prioritize the lives of the most vulnerable among us, including our children, seniors, the shrinking middle class, the growing working poor, and those suffering from a disability. With dramatic cuts to Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, the Administration is once again paying lip service to Americans while seeking to undermine the safety net programs that keep our communities healthy and secure. Further, the proposal slashes Social Security and zeroes out funding for programs designed to support working families and promote economic development upstate.

"Other very troubling pieces of the Administration's proposed budget include a nearly 30% cut to the Environmental Protection Agency, ending the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, reducing USDA rural broadband programs, slashing funding for the Small Business Administration and undermining resources for our family farmers and those in need of food assistance.

"Our economy is not working for everyone. The Administration's budget proposal would only make matters worse by compounding growing economic inequality. Our budget ought to be a bipartisan compromise that reflects the shared goal of economic security for all Americans, while making sure our country stays on a fiscally responsible path."
