U.S. Congressman Greg Pence (IN-06) released a statement following the Trump Administration's decision to invoke the Defense Production Act to support meat processing plants. In a victory for meat producers, this Executive Order will compel meat processing plants to stay open as part of critical infrastructure.

"Meat processing plants in rural communities across our country have been forced to shut down due to COVID-19 and our nation's food supply chains are vulnerable. The Hoosier state is the fifth largest pork producing state. Pork producers cannot operate if they are unable to send their livestock to processing plants. As our nation faces this unprecedented challenge, agricultural production is the definition of essential," said Congressman Pence. "The Trump Administration always puts our nation's farmers and agriculture community first, and I applaud their leadership in bolstering the infrastructure for our nation's food supply."
