Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's ruling to block President Donald Trump from ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California:

"Today's ruling represents a victory for our nation and the young DACA recipients who know no other home than the United States of America. Now more than ever, our country needs these individuals -- those whose contributions have been invaluable to our society -- to continue strengthening our communities through their service, from their work as first responders and frontline health providers in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic to their dedication in educating our children, caring for our loved ones, and keeping our country running as essential workers.

"Last year, I proudly cast my vote to pass H.R. 6 -- the American Dream and Promise Act -- a bill to provide a pathway citizenship to DACA recipients. The Supreme Court ruling that "DHS's decision to rescind DACA was arbitrary and capricious,' further emphasizes the urgent need for Congress to finally enact a permanent solution to protect our nation's DREAMers. I remain dedicated in my ongoing fight to defend the rights of DACA recipients across the country and help them realize their own vision of the American dream."
