E&C Announces Full Committee Hearing on the Growing Health, Environmental and Accessibility Needs of Indian Country

Statement

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced that the Full Committee will hold a fully remote hearing on Wednesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. (EDT) on the growing health, environmental and accessibility needs of tribal communities across the country. The hearing is entitled, "Addressing the Urgent Needs of Our Tribal Communities."

"For far too long our nation's tribal communities have suffered terrible health inequities, unequal access to safe drinking water, unreliable access to the energy grid, little to no broadband connectivity and other systemic problems that have created unnecessary hardship and turmoil. They deserve better," Pallone said. "Congress has a responsibility to ensure access to safe facilities, treatments and infrastructure in these communities. Now, as the COVID-19 crisis wreaks further havoc on Indian Country and exacerbates long-existing problems, our Committee will discuss what more we can do to ensure Congress meets its obligations to tribal governments and communities."

This hearing will take place remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee's website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.
