Senator Steans has been a leader in the effort to legalize adult-use recreational cannabis in Illinois. She worked with Gov. Pritzker and her colleagues in the General Assembly to legalize the use of marijuana in Illinois with a strong emphasis on social equity.

The legalization of adult-use cannabis is expected to spur economic development in Illinois, including up to $700 million in new revenue.

It also has the potential to create jobs. According to a report from New Frontier Data, the legal marijuana market could create more than 250,000 jobs nationally by 2020.
