Senator Perdue Joins President Trump To Discuss Rebuilding America's Infrastructure

Statement

Date: July 15, 2020
Location: Atlanta, GA
Issues: Infrastructure

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) today joined President Trump at the UPS Hapeville Airport Hub in Atlanta to announce the implementation of a new policy allowing for expedited infrastructure projects in Georgia and across the country.

"As a business guy, President Trump knows that to compete in the global economy America has to have world-class infrastructure," said Senator Perdue. "Since day one, President Trump's goal has been to reduce regulatory roadblocks and leverage private sector partnerships to achieve the greatest return on investment. In Georgia, we saw this business approach in action when the I-85 bridge collapsed and was repaired a month ahead of schedule. Similarly, after 20 years of career politicians failing to deepen the Port of Savannah just five feet, President Trump now has the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project on track for completion by 2022. In many ways, Georgia is a crossroads for America's economy. The Port of Savannah is the country's third largest, fastest growing, and most productive port. Hartsfield-Jackson is the world's busiest airport. Infrastructure is one of the many reasons why Georgia is the best state in the country in which to do business."

"We're pleased to be joined by a great senator, somebody who's done a phenomenal job. He's a man that's respected by everybody on both sides of the U.S. Senate. He works hard and he loves your state, Senator David Perdue," said President Trump. "Together, we are building our incredible future with American hands, American heart, and American steel. By streamlining infrastructure approvals, we'll further expand America's unprecedented economic boom. As your president, I am more determined than ever that America's infrastructure will be second to none, especially here in Georgia. Nobody else was able to get these things done, and one thing I know is that we get things done."

"This Administration, with the strong collaboration and support of Senator Perdue, has made cutting red tape a priority, and these common sense reforms will speed up infrastructure projects in Georgia and across the country," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao

"Given the state's strong business environment and advantageous geographic location, Georgia remains a pivotal state for both local and regional goods movement. The biggest challenge we face, at present, is significant traffic congestion at key highway interchanges," said George Willis, UPS President of U.S. Operations, including UPS Airlines. "Senator Perdue understands these supply chain challenges and the need to get significant return on any investment. Investing in roads, bridges and highway infrastructure will pay significant economic, safety, environmental and quality of life benefits for businesses and Georgians alike."
