Issue Position: Economic Justice

Issue Position

Economic Development and Opportunity are essential to transformation in District 11. For far too long District 11 has been neglected economically. As your state senator, one of my top priorities will be to transform the economic landscape in District 11. The days of accepting the status quo are over our community needs real economic solutions that benefit us. As your state senator, I will work tirelessly with you and the legislature to do just that. We must create an equity package for the citizens of District 11 that aims to end the economic gap in respects to the rest of the city of Omaha. Another way we can begin to do so is to raise the minimum wage in the state of Nebraska and set a plan to continue to raise it until it keeps up with inflation. Citizens should also have equity in opportunity zone development that comes along in the near future. Our state and district should also fund and support more high growth tech opportunities by attracting them to our community and empowering the citizens of district 11 to take part in all opportunities. We must find new ways to support and empower grass-root organizations one way to do so is to create a grass-root community fund that would be funded through a tax on the sale of alcohol and tobacco in areas of high poverty. Lastly, we must address systemic oppression and racism from an economic lens.
