Issue Position

Substance abuse is one of the biggest issues affecting the Mountain State. West Virginia leads the nation in fatal overdoses, and addiction to opioid painkillers and heroin has decimated whole families and communities. During my prior service in the House, I sponsored and cosponsored multiple bills designed to enhance and expand treatment opportunities, improve childhood education on the dangers of substance abuse and clamp down on those who would seek to bring drugs into our state and push them on our citizens. I will renee my fight against this tidal wave of substance abuse and addiction as your Delegate by working with experts in treatment, the criminal justice system and education to find new ways to get our citizens into recovery and keep drugs out of the hands of our young people.
