Pappas Statement on President Trump's Suggestion To Delay the November 2020 Election

Statement

Date: July 30, 2020
Issues: Elections

Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following state in response to President Trump's suggestion that the 2020 General Election could be delayed:

"Throughout our history -- in times of world wars, economic depression, and global pandemics -- America has always held free and fair elections on their scheduled dates. Now should be no different," said Congressman Pappas. "The President's tweet suggesting that we delay the election is reckless, irresponsible, and against the law. It serves only to undermine our most sacred institution. In accordance with state law and public health recommendations, this election will look and feel different in order to allow voters and poll workers to remain safe. But I have every confidence in the ability of New Hampshire's local election officials to ensure we will vote safely and securely on November 3rd. I urge President Trump to stop spreading disinformation and commit unequivocally to upholding the rule of law for our elections."
