Issue Position: I will fight to add LGBTQ rights to the Montana Human Rights Act

Issue Position

As a rabbi and attorney, I believe strongly in the human dignity of every human being. That human dignity extends to all people regardless of gender identity. Thus, I was among the first Montana clergy to perform a same sex wedding when that became legal. I have co-led the statewide Pride service and I have taught in a wide variety of settings about how the Bible does NOT condemn homosexuality, as some people incorrectly maintain. The time has come to ensure that our LGBTQ friends and family are protected by the law from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accomodations. Nobody should lose a job or home because of their gender identity. I will work to add protection for LGBTQ individuals to the Montana Human Rights Acts, which currently prohibits discrimination in housing and employment based on race, creed, religion, color, sex, physical or mental disability, age, or national origin.
