Jenniffer González Announces $ 10.9 Million for Transportation, Housing and Cor3 to Mitigate the Effects of The Coronavirus

Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón announced a total of $ 10,972,821 in federal funds for the Island for transportation programs and emergency protection measures from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD, for its acronym in English) and the Federal Agency for Emergency Management (FEMA, for its acronym in English) to address the emergency by the coronavirus.

The municipalities of Mayagüez and Añasco were awarded $ 500,000 and $ 203,310, respectively, under the Urbanized Area Formula, grants under the Federal Transportation Administration (FTA).

This grant will support operational, administrative, and preventive maintenance costs, including driver salaries, personal protective equipment, driver protective shields, and cleaning and disinfection costs to respond to and recover from the public health emergency of COVID-19. under the federal economic stimulus law to handle the coronavirus emergency, better known as the CARES Act (Public Law 116-136).

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under DOT announced $ 159,925.00 for the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport as part of funds allocated for the project that updates a study of the pavement management plan. This project will be financed by the CARES Law and the Federal Government. The payment is a combination of funds from the Cares Act and funds from the federal Department of Transportation.

FEMA, for its part, granted $ 4,675,212.54 to the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience of Puerto Rico (COR3) for emergency protection measures using labor, equipment, materials and contracts or mutual aid.

On the other hand, the CARES Act provided funding nationwide for rental assistance for tenants, which funds the Housing Choice Voucher program. The Puerto Rico Public Housing Administration and 75 municipalities were awarded a total of $ 5,434,373 from HUD for this Housing Choice Voucher Program, known as Section 8.
