Statement

Date: Sept. 22, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 991, the Extension of the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act, which reauthorizes the U.S. Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA) until 2030:

"The Caribbean is an important region to the United States and our economy. The CBTPA supports thousands of workers and businesses in both the United States and the Caribbean, and its extension helps to facilitate long-term economic development. I applaud the bipartisan support for H.R. 991, and I look forward to the Senate swiftly taking up this legislation before the CBTPA's September 30 expiration."
