Finkenauer Statement on President Trump Calling an End to COVID-19 Relief Negotiations

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (IA-01) released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump instructing his administration end to negotiations on a new COVID-19 relief package:

"The President's decision today to walk away from negotiations on a desperately needed COVID-19 relief package callously threatens the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans -- including Iowans in my district.

"In recent days I've met with small business owners counting on additional aid to keep their doors open and their employees on the payroll. I've spoken with hospital administrators who need more resources for testing and treatment, and to support our frontline health care workers. Police and firefighters have told me their communities need additional support to adequately protect our friends and neighbors. And I've heard stories from Iowans all across my district facing challenges paying rent and even buying groceries.

"Last week, I helped pass a relief package that would address these needs. It's unbelievable and unforgivable that the Senate has refused to even consider this compromise -- and that the administration is now turning its back on Americans in need. Now, more than ever, is the time for us to put politics aside and come together and deliver for the American people."
