Issue Position: Women's Rights

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020
Issues: Women

When women succeed, Hawai'i succeeds. Yet, on average, women in the islands earn less than men for working the same jobs. Women are also frequent victims of sexual and physical violence, but often lack the resources needed to obtain the justice they deserve. In some parts of Hawai'i, women and children are even forced into sexual slavery.

Once elected, I will work to guarantee equal pay for hardworking women. I will also advocate for additional resources for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, including funding for legal assistance, victim shelters, and access to medical care. Finally, because slavery has no place in paradise, I will sponsor proposals to educate our children about the dangers of sexual exploitation and increase the availability of restorative services and rehabilitative care for survivors of sex trafficking.
