Issue Position: Increasing Affordable Housing

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

The rising cost of housing is one of the primary financial strains burdening Hawaii's families and driving talent out of the state. It is critical the State works with developers to increase the supply of affordable housing for local families and workers.

In the Hawaiʻi State House, I will support responsible development that uses State land to the fullest extent--effectively utilizing DOE land, Hawaiian Homesteads land, and along the Rail line. While working together with developers to increase the supply of affordable housing for Hawaii's residents, the State must work with the City to ensure foreign real estate investors are paying their fair share. With careful coordination with the community, increasing affordable housing will ensure a home for future generations while maintaining the landscape of our neighborhoods.
