Issue Position: Kupuna Care

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020
Issues: Senior Citizens

Caring for our kūpuna is a family and community responsibility the State must support. To ensure Hawaii's kūpuna and individuals with disabilities can enjoy a dignified and self-sufficient life, I will coordinate with the Executive Office of Aging to strengthen the Aging and Disability Resource Center and expand programs like Kūpuna Care and Kūpuna Caregivers[3].

As the State establishes a comprehensive system of services, we must not wait until our kūpuna are suffering to begin care. To prevent long term, serious health complications, the State and the community must work to grow a culture of proactive health care based on physical exercise, social interaction, and healthy diet.
