Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced the passage of the TSA Workplace Improvement Act of 2020. This bipartisan legislation provides Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees with 12 weeks of paid parental leave and ensures access to facilities for nursing.

"No mother or father should have to choose between their job and being a parent," said Rep. Katko. "That's why, in Congress I've proudly led efforts to support working parents, including policies that ensure access to paid parental leave and necessary protections for pregnant workers."

Katko continued, "In a continuation of these efforts, today I'm pleased to announce the passage of my bipartisan bill, the TSA Workplace Improvement Act of 2020. This measure provides at least 12 weeks of paid parental leave to qualified TSA personnel and ensures new mothers have access to designated nursing facilities in the workplace. With the passage of this bill, we are taking a meaningful step to ensure working parents have the necessary accommodations and protections to continue safely and comfortably working for the TSA."

Specifically, H.R. 5811, the TSA Workplace Improvement Act of 2020:

Requires the TSA to provide adequate access to facilities designated for use by nursing mothers in the workplace.
Requires TSA to provide workers with at least 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
In Congress, Rep. Katko has consistently worked across party lines to advance commonsense measures that support working parents and soon-to-be mothers. Last month, Rep. Katko passed the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, bipartisan legislation he introduced to protect pregnant workers from workplace discrimination
