Issue Position: Fighting for WNY Families

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

Sean's strong commitment to working families helps to guide his work in Albany and in Western New York. Sean is proud to have a proven track record of fighting for Western New Yorkers -- and delivering results. He believes that government needs to be more responsive to the people with full transparency.

Thanks to Sean's leadership in the State Assembly, New York's property tax cap is permanent, and major tax cuts have been enacted for hard-working middle class families to the lowest rates in nearly 70 years. Sean has also fought to cut taxes for local small businesses to create more jobs and move the economy forward. Throughout his time in the State Assembly, Sean has worked to pass the Child Victims Act, the Women's Justice Agenda, and smart ideas to tackle the opioid epidemic.

Sean also knows that hard working families need Paid Family Leave, and that's why he fought for it and helped to make it a reality in New York State. New Yorkers can now take 12 weeks of paid family leave and will not have to sacrifice their financial security to care for a new child or a sick loved one.

Additionally, Sean knows the foundation of our Democracy is the right to vote. That's why Sean has worked tirelessly to make it easier for New Yorkers to vote and make their voices heard. Sean passed laws to create early voting, expand no excuse absentee voting, and ensure military serving overseas have more time to cast a ballot.

In the State Senate, Sean will work every day to:

Lower taxes for hard-working middle class families, and seniors.
Build on New York's Paid Family Leave program to ensure affordable childcare for every New York family.
Fight to improve quality of life for Western New Yorkers.
Strengthen our democracy by making it easier for New Yorkers to vote.
Affordable Healthcare for All New Yorkers

Sean Ryan is a champion for high-quality affordable healthcare. While some on both sides want to scrap the progress our healthcare system has made under the Affordable Care Act, Sean believes the last thing we need is a disruption of our healthcare system in the middle of a public health crisis.

We have a lot of work to do to improve healthcare in America. Tearing down a system that serves millions of New Yorkers is the wrong way to start. Sean believes that access to high-quality affordable and universal healthcare is a right for every New Yorker.

In the State Senate, Sean will work every day to:

Lower healthcare costs to ensure no family goes bankrupt due to medical bills.
Protect health coverage for New Yorkers with pre-existing conditions.
Hold pharmaceutical companies accountable to stop the rising cost of prescription drugs.
Enact common sense reforms to expand coverage for the people of Western New York.
