Issue Position: Addressing the Climate Crisis

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

Climate change puts us all at risk as sea levels rise and storms get more severe. We need to fight for a Green New Deal for Massachusetts. That means a transition away from fossil fuels and towards 100% clean and renewable energy. Through this effort we can make critical investments in our state's transportation and infrastructure, while empowering labor unions and workers.

Environmental justice must be a critical component of our fight against climate change. Low-income and minority areas of our state have been disproportionately exposed to damaging consequences of climate change. Therefore, it is crucial that we prioritize clean energy investment in low-income areas. Our Commonwealth should change outdated incentive structures to make solar energy accessible to individuals in environmental justice communities, and encourage the installation of solar panels. We should also invest heavily in green jobs in these communities, putting people back to work manufacturing next generation green technology, retrofitting existing housing stock and building green facilities.

A healthy future for our children begins with us, today.
