House Democrats Watch "Tiger King" While Michigan Families Need Help

This week, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is planning for the House of Representatives to vote on legislation that will ban Americans from privately owning large cats -- lions, tigers, jaguars, etc… The legislation is scheduled for a vote on Thursday and it is inspired by situations like the one covered in the "Tiger King" documentary.

Meanwhile, families and small business owners across the country have been calling for Congress to pass additional COVID relief. Congressman John Moolenaar has been working to bring relief to suffering families and small business owners, especially those who need help because of the business closings imposed by state government. He supports H.R. 8265, a bill that would re-open the Paycheck Protection Program and allow businesses to receive a second, forgivable loan. The legislation also ensures specific funding is available for small businesses with fewer than 10 employees.

"Speaker Pelosi is watching "Tiger King,' while Michigan families need help paying their bills and small businesses face permanent closure," said Congressman Moolenaar. "There is $138 billion in the Paycheck Protection Program that has already been approved by Congress, but Speaker Pelosi is blocking a vote that would re-open the program and let small businesses receive immediate relief. Let's vote on that bill and start getting help to those who need it most without the pork the Democrats want."

The Paycheck Protection Program has already injected more than $15 billion into Michigan's economy and recent research by Bloomberg News found that PPP funding went to more than 7,000 small businesses in the Fourth District, supporting nearly 94 percent of the small business jobs in the 15-county area.

Americans have consistently said the economy is their number one priority. At the same time, polls have found no indication that additional Congressional regulation of felines is a priority for the American people.
