Palazzo Votes Against Article of Impeachment

Statement

Date: Jan. 13, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) released the following statement after voting against House Resolution 24, "Impeaching Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors." The resolution was adopted by a margin of 232-197.

"My job in Congress is to represent the people of south Mississippi, and I know the majority of South Mississippi does not support impeaching President Trump. I join everyone in condemning the violence that occurred in Washington last week, just as we condemned the violence that took place in cities across the country this summer -- none of this is acceptable.

"But if we are sincere in our efforts to heal this nation, impeaching a President based on political motives is not going to help accomplish this goal. I do not support impeachment, and like every other Member of Congress should, I will ensure a peaceful transition of power on January 20."
