Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on President-elect Biden's Nomination of Mayor Pete Buttigieg as Secretary of Transportation

Statement

Date: Dec. 15, 2020

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today after President-elect Joe Biden nominated former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg to serve as Secretary of Transportation:
"Pete Buttigieg is a fantastic choice for Transportation Secretary. As a mayor, Pete understands the importance of investing in our roads, bridges and water systems. Pete knows that improving our infrastructure will create good-paying American jobs and make us more competitive as a nation. And being from the Midwest, Pete knows first-hand the challenges many older, industrial communities like South Bend, Flint and Saginaw face. I look forward to working with President-elect Biden and Pete Buttigieg to pass a bipartisan and bold infrastructure plan that meets our country's needs. If confirmed, Pete would be the first openly LGBTQ cabinet secretary, a truly historic moment for our country. The U.S. Senate should quickly consider and confirm Pete Buttigieg after our new president is sworn in next month"
