Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, has invited Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, a Flint resident and physician, to be his guest at the 59th Inaugural Ceremonies, where Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the next President and Vice President of the United States on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, each Member of Congress can bring one guest to the inauguration. Dr. Mukkamala is an otolaryngologist, President of the Michigan State Medical Society and a trustee of the American Medical Association. In Flint, Dr. Mukkamala also served as the chair of the board of Community Foundation of Greater Flint and chair emeritus of the Crim Fitness Foundation. Dr. Mukkamala has been a health care advocate for Genesee County medical providers and residents. Over the past year, Dr. Mukkamala has worked alongside other health care heroes to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

"I am honored to welcome Dr. Bobby Mukkamala as my guest to the inauguration as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are sworn into office," Congressman Kildee said. "Bobby is a well-respected doctor and leader in our community who has been on the frontlines helping to defeat the coronavirus. I wanted to bring Bobby as my guest to the inauguration to thank him and other health care heroes working to protect public health and keep our communities safe."

"It is a unique privilege to accept Rep. Kildee's invitation to attend the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. The United States faces numerous challenges, especially related to combating the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but I have no doubt that this new administration will work tirelessly to meet these demands head-on. Rep. Kildee remains a steadfast advocate for the health of our district, and I am thrilled to attend this historic event as a representative of the health care workers who have worked tirelessly towards this goal for months," said Dr. Mukkamala, MD, Chair-Elect, Board of Trustees, American Medical Association.

Members of the public wishing to partake in the official ceremonies are strongly encouraged not to travel to Washington, D.C. and instead participate virtually. More information can be found at www.inaugural.senate.gov. After the ceremony, Congressman Kildee's office will be providing a limited number of commemorative ticket bundles and program packets to constituents as keepsakes. Constituents who are interested should contact Congressman Kildee's office at 810-238-8627.

Last month, Congressman Kildee voted in support of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, a nearly $1 trillion emergency relief package to support American workers, families and small businesses during the pandemic. The package provides billions in urgently need funds to accelerate the free and equitable distribution of safe vaccines to as many Americans as soon as possible, to implement a strong national testing and tracing strategy with billions reserved specifically for combating the disparities facing communities of color, and to support our heroic health care workers.
