Issues: Defense

Today, Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) voted to grant a waiver to Secretary of Defense-designate Lloyd Austin, issuing the following statement.

"After reviewing his extensive and impressive record, along with having the opportunity to speak with Secretary-designate Austin, I was proud to cast my vote to allow him to serve as our next Secretary of Defense. From a degree in Education from West Point and later receiving a Master's degree in Management and Leadership to his ground-breaking service overseeing the drawdown of troops in Iraq and as the architect of the campaign to defeat ISIS - it is abundantly clear that Secretary-designate Austin meets and exceeds every qualification to serve as our next leader of the Pentagon."

"Secretary-designate Austin brings to bear an experience and temperament that is desperately needed to help ensure our national security. His qualifications are impeccable and his record of success demonstrates, not only his ability as a soldier but his capacity to practice diplomacy and command the respect of our women and men in uniform."

"I was proud to cast my vote for Secretary-designate Austin. I know, if confirmed, he will lead a Department of Defense that reflects the talent and diversity of our military and above all, will protect the American people. It is my sincere hope that the Senate will act to confirm Secretary-designate Austin as swiftly as possible."
