Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA-14) -- who has spewed hateful conspiracy theories and advocated for political violence against Democratic leaders -- from her committee assignments. Greene has been a vocal supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theory, which has upended lives, and whose followers played a central role in the insurrection and attempt to overturn the election results on January 6th. Pro-Trump rioters who participated in the terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol were followers of the same conspiracy theories peddled by Greene.

"Words have consequences, especially the words of a Member of the United States Congress," said Kuster. "It is our responsibility as elected officials to tell the truth to our constituents and conduct ourselves with the dignity the office demands. At the bare minimum, that means not spreading false, hateful conspiracy theories or advocating for political violence. We saw the cost of such abhorrent, destructive language in the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6th, incited by then-President Trump -- we cannot let this behavior go unchecked. I strongly condemn Rep. Greene's hateful, threatening rhetoric and believe that her words and her actions demand consequences. That's why, today, I voted to remove Rep. Greene from her committee assignments."

"Perhaps the most concerning of Rep. Greene's behavior is her false statements about mass shootings," Kuster continued. "The horror, pain, and heartbreak that school shootings have inflicted upon our communities cannot be forgotten. My heart aches for the families who have lost children and loved ones to these tragedies. Someone who has repeatedly endorsed political violence and parrots baseless, false conspiracy theories about the innocent lives lost should not be seated on the House Education and Labor Committee. I do not take this vote lightly, and it is with a clear conscience that I vote to strip Rep. Greene of her committee assignments and condemn her hateful rhetoric and promotion of violent conspiracy theories."
