Congressman Anthony Brown: "We Cannot Let Donald Trump, Who Actively Orchestrated Sedition, Lead Our Nation's Government For Another Seven Days"

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement in support of the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump for his role inciting an insurrection to overturn the results of a free and fair election:

"A week ago, Americans and this chamber lived through one of our darkest days. The Commander in Chief incited a mob of insurrectionists to overturn the results of a free and fair election -- through terror and intimidation.

"They failed. But this violence took its toll. People died, our country's temple to democracy was vandalized, and our image as the world's leading democracy was shaken. President Trump represents a real threat to our national security, our democratic institutions, and the people of this country.

"We cannot let Donald Trump, who actively orchestrated sedition, lead our nation's government for another seven days. Let alone giving orders to our military. The president went so far as to call on the military to join his effort to subvert the will of the American people. We cannot let that stand.

"The oath I took as a Member of Congress and as an Army officer included the same words that take on new meaning in the aftermath of this attack: Defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The assault on this body, calls us to hold the perpetrators accountable for their shameful actions. That includes President Donald Trump. We cannot wait until January 20th - Donald Trump must be removed from office."
