Congressman Neguse Applauds Biden Administration Action to Tackle the Climate Crisis, Preserve Public Lands and Establish a Civilian Conservation Corps

Today, Congressman Neguse applauded action from the Biden Administration to preserve public lands and act on climate change. The executive actions today support the creation of a Climate Conservation Corps, similar to Congressman Neguse's proposal unveiled this summer to create a conservation corps to put Americans back to work in the wake of the pandemic. Congressman Neguse issued this statement on the executive actions:

"Climate change is an existential threat, which gone unaddressed will continue to impact our communities, and the lands and forests across Colorado. I applaud President Biden for taking decisive action today to invest in good-paying clean energy jobs and sustainable infrastructure that will power our future. The actions today move us towards conserving 30% of U.S. lands and oceans by 2030, encourage the creation of a 21st Century Civilian Conservation Corps, and promote scientific integrity, three proposals that I have championed over the last two years. These actions will benefit Coloradans and will provide vital pillars as we work to preserve treasured public lands in our state and build the clean energy economy for our future."

Background
Over one third of the 55 bills Congressman Neguse introduced in the 116th Congress seek to address the climate crisis, preserve public lands and invest in clean energy and environmental sustainability. Last year, Congressman Neguse helped lead the 30 by 30 resolution which calls for preserving 30% of U.S. lands and ocean by the year 2030. This Summer, Congressman Neguse, alongside Senator Ron Wyden, unveiled the 21st Century Conservation Corps for our Health andOur Jobs Act, which would establish a 21st Century Civilian Conservation Corps to put Americans back to work restoring public lands. Congressman Neguse also authored legislation to stop climate censorship at federal agencies. As a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, Congressman Neguse's legislation to preserve public lands, safeguard science, invest in regenerative agriculture research, build resilient communities and better understand the national security threats of climate change were cited in the Committee's National Climate Action plan, released in July 2020.
