Sinema Bipartisan Bill Celebrates Tribal Colleges and Universities

The U.S. Senate unanimously approved Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema's bipartisan resolution designating the week of February 28 as National Tribal Colleges and Universities Week.

"We're proud to recognize Tribal Colleges and Universities for their efforts preserving indigenous language and tribal traditions, and expanding opportunities for tribal communities across Arizona," said Sinema.

For many tribal communities in Arizona, Tribal Colleges and Universities are the only close and affordable higher education option. Arizona has three of the United States' 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities: Dine College, San Carlos Apache College, and Tohono O'odom Community College.

Sinema's bipartisan resolution celebrates Tribal Colleges and Universities and their efforts to preserve indigenous languages and tribal traditions. Tribal Colleges and Universities provide critical access to education for Native Americans.

Sinema continues her work to support tribal education. In September, Sinema urged immediate action from the Federal Communications Commission to expedite broadband connectivity to Native American communities in Arizona during the coronavirus pandemic.
