Mike Garcia Co-Sponsors Bill to Support Law Enforcement, Improve Public Safety

Statement

Today, Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) released the following statement on co-sponsoring the Just and Unifying Solutions to Invigorate Communities Everywhere (JUSTICE) Act, which would increase transparency, accountability, and performance of our nation's law enforcement. This bill would help ensure that our nation's law enforcement officers have the tools and support they need to properly and safely protect our communities.

"As a nation, we must continue to have a serious, bipartisan discussion about meaningful reform to what community policing should look like," said Garcia. "The vast majority of our nation's law enforcement officers are honorable guardians that selflessly serve our communities. Local and State law enforcement officers have been placed under a microscope due to unacceptable actions made by a few officers. Supporting our local law enforcement officers is crucial to keeping our communities safe, which includes providing law enforcement the proper funding and training to protect all lives. I am proud to co-sponsor the JUSTICE Act, which ensures we are properly funding our law enforcement, takes needed steps towards providing real, sensible solutions, and will make America a safer place for everyone."

The JUSTICE Act would:

Improve law enforcement transparency through additional reporting.
Ensure law enforcement agencies and officers are held accountable.
Improve training for officers to better perform their duties.
