Democrats Continue Encroachment of Second Amendment

Washington - Congresswoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05) released the following statement in response to the passage of H.R. 8 - the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and H.R. 1446 - the Enhanced Background Checks Act.

"The right for law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms was again infringed upon by Democrats by passing two enhanced background check bills, H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446. Today, I voted against both of these measures.

"Enforcing longer wait times for gun purchases and requiring the transfer of gun ownership between two unrelated persons to be conducted by a licensed dealer, will not prevent criminals from obtaining firearms through illegal means. We already have laws in place that would prevent the transfer of a firearm to a prohibited person. What we do need is greater enforcement of existing laws and a mechanism to ensure that those who seek to illegally buy firearms, or who lie on a federal background check form are pursued and brought to justice.

"Instead, these bills ignore Americans' constitutional rights and make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families. Hunters, hobbyists, and sport shooters should not be punished for the criminal actions of others, nor should lending your friend a shotgun on a hunting trip be criminalized. As Democrats continue to encroach upon the Second Amendment, I will continue my defense of Americans' right to keep and bear arms."
