Rep. Estes Votes Against Dem's Final Bailout Push

Statement

Date: March 10, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) voted against Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Joe Biden's final push to bail out historically Democratic-led states without adequately addressing coronavirus-related needs in the United States.

"What the House passed is not COVID-19 relief -- only 9% of the bill actually combats COVID-19," said Rep. Estes. "The bill has a price tag of $1.9 trillion, meaning each person in America will owe $6,000 just for this one bill alone. It sends money to state governments even when states like Kansas are experiencing revenue growth -- meanwhile historically Democratic-led states are seeing this as an opportunity to backfill years of mismanagement and recent extreme shutdown measures. Kansans shouldn't be responsible for bailing out the failed policies of California's Gavin Newsom and New York's Andrew Cuomo."

The $1.9 trillion spending bill includes the language from Rep. Ron Estes' Aviation Manufacturing Jobs Protection Act, which provides target relief to Kansas aviation manufacturing workers who have been affected by or are at risk of layoffs and furloughs.
