U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) voted today to confirm Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio-11) as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"For over a decade, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge has worked tirelessly in Congress to address the challenges Americans are facing in their daily lives. After meeting with her earlier this year, I know she will bring her knowledge, collaboration, and problem-solving approach to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. I look forward to working with her to combat housing discrimination and to ensure Nevada families have access to safe and affordable during the pandemic and beyond."

Background:

Senator Cortez Masto has been a leader in the Senate promoting affordable housing and combating housing discrimination, introducing legislation to restore and strengthen fair housing laws and increase support for affordable housing. She helped deliver housing provisions in the recent COVID relief packages that increase the supply of new homes, including cosponsoring a change to the Low Income Housing Tax Credit that will provide for an additional 130,000 affordable homes throughout the nation by 2030.

Senator Cortez Masto also secured more than $52 billion in federal emergency rental assistance for the 1 in 5 adult renter households behind on their rent during the pandemic due to illness and job loss. She helped deliver nearly $10 billion in federal funds to help homeowners who are behind on their mortgage payments. She has supported HUD programs that build new housing developments, provide rental assistance, aid people experiencing homelessness, provide housing counseling and expand vouchers, and enforce fair housing laws. Senator Cortez Masto met with Congresswoman Fudge earlier this year to discuss housing policy and the senator's housing priorities for Nevadans.
