Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) voted to confirm California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

"We must work together as a nation to overcome the pandemic, and I look forward to working with Secretary Becerra to defeat COVID-19 and to ensure that Nevada has the resources and support it needs to get us back to normal and to get people back to work. Beyond the pandemic, there are great challenges ahead, and I will remain focused on protecting and expanding access to affordable health care for all Nevadans, protecting women's reproductive rights, boosting mental health resources, and bringing down the costs of prescription drugs. I am very pleased to have helped confirm our first Latino Secretary of Health and Human Services, and I will work with him as a partner to help the great state of Nevada."

Senator Cortez Masto has long prioritized improving health care access and mental health services for Nevadans. She has worked to protect and expand affordable health care and to expand behavioral health crisis services and peer support resources.

Earlier this year, she met with Secretary Xavier Becerra to discuss her priorities to protect affordable health care, expand mental health resources, strengthen the Indian Health Service, and build our health care provider workforce in Nevada's rural and underserved communities.
