Larson: The Time for the Ratification of the ERA is Now

Press Release

Date: March 17, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for H.J.Res. 17, to remove the deadline for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Larson is a cosponsor of the bill. This resolution would remove the time limit for ratification, which has prevented the progress of the ERA for decades. The ERA has been ratified by 38 states and the Constitution will be amended if this resolution is enacted.

"The ERA is long overdue and critically important to securing equality for women under the law and in the Constitution. The arbitrary 1982 deadline for states to ratify must be removed, so we can move forward in the fight for the ERA to become the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution. It is long past time to ensure equal protection under the law. I am proud to support this legislation and I will support this fight to the finish line," said Larson.
