Levin, Bowman, Trone Introduce Resolution to Honor Assistant Principals

Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), a member of the House Education & Labor Committee, along with Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) and Congressman David Trone (MD-06), both members of the House Education & Labor Committee, introduced a resolution to declare the week of April 5 through April 9 National Assistant Principals Week.
"Assistant principals provide crucial leadership to their schools by supporting both students and faculty," said Rep. Levin. "Fostering academic success and a good work environment is no easy task, especially in the middle of pandemic. Yet assistant principals in Michigan and across the country have continued to support their schools in order to provide educational opportunity and guarantee academic excellence despite the hardships students and teachers have faced over the past year. Let us honor assistant principals for the often unseen work they do to keep their schools running and succeeding."
"After spending 20 years as an educator, I know that our assistant principals deserve our deep respect for the under-appreciated but critical impact they have on our students," Rep. Bowman said. "I hope this resolution can serve as a sign of gratitude for the invaluable work they do every day in our schools to support our kids, families and communities."
"As the son of an educator, I know firsthand that assistant principals are crucial to the success of their schools and students," said Rep. Trone. "By designating National Assistant Principals Week, we are giving these heroes the recognition they deserve."
The resolution notes that "assistant principals are entrusted with maintaining an inviting, safe, and orderly school environment that supports the growth and achievement of each and every student by nurturing positive peer relationships, recognizing student achievement, mediating conflicts, analyzing behavior patterns, providing interventions, and, when necessary, taking disciplinary actions."
The resolution has the support of The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP); the National Association of Elementary School Principals; and the American Federation of School Administrators.
