Norton Looking Forward to Press Conference Ahead of D.C. Statehood Hearing

Press Release

Date: March 19, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that she is looking forward to the press conference before Monday's hearing on her D.C. statehood bill, H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act, which she is holding with Committee on Oversight and Reform Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD), and Senator Tom Carper (D-DE), the sponsor of the Senate companion bill.

"I am confident Monday will make the case for granting the residents of the nation's capital, who have worked for 220 years for this imprimatur, all the elements and the full meaning of citizenship. Statehood for the District of Columbia will give real meaning to the nation's oldest slogan: "no taxation without representation.' Statehood is about giving the people of the District of Columbia a voice and a say in their own government."

To participate in the virtual press conference, press must RSVP by emailing OversightPress@mail.house.gov by 9:00 a.m. on Monday. The press conference will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The committee hearing examining H.R. 51 will begin at 11:00 a.m. Seating for press at the hearing will be extremely limited. Press who would like to attend the hearing in person must RSVP to their respective Press Gallery by 5:00 p.m. today.
