ICYMI: McEachin Releases Statement on The Lead-Safe Housing For Kids Act

Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) released a statement following the House Committee on Financial Services' full Committee hearing yesterday entitled, "Build Back Better: Investing in Equitable and Affordable Housing Infrastructure."

"I am so pleased that my bill, the Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act, was included yesterday as one of several serious proposals being considered during the House Committee on Financial Services' hearing on the need for significant Federal investments in equitable and affordable housing infrastructure," McEachin said. "As President Biden has repeatedly noted, the American Jobs Plan includes not only funding for roads and bridges, but also bold, desperately needed, and equitable investments in our nation's affordable housing infrastructure. Significant investment in affordable housing will not only create decent paying jobs for hardworking families, but it will also help address the serious health, environmental, and safety risks posed to families by our nation's aging housing stock.

"The Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act is central to that work. The legislation, which will be reintroduced later this year, would provide comprehensive measures to reduce the threat of childhood lead exposure and poisoning in federally assisted housing, and would include critical funding for lead abatement. Lead poisoning can have a devastating impact on a child's overall health, and can lead to permanent brain damage. It is absolutely essential that any significant investment in our nation's housing infrastructure include measures, like the Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act, that would address the serious risks posed to families and children."
