The Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) has selected Exp U.S. Services, Incorporated as the preferred architectural design firm for the new Central Computing Facility in Springfield. CDB will oversee the project's design and construction in accordance with the protocol for state-appropriated projects.

Through Governor Pritzker's bipartisan capital plan, the first in nearly a decade, nearly $80.5 million was appropriated to CDB for this project. The project includes the design and construction of a new computing facility to be used by the Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology.

"Illinois is a global leader when it comes to technology and innovation, with world-class universities educating talented students to fill the jobs of tomorrow," said Governor JB Pritzker. "This new computing facility will further strengthen our state's standing as a technology powerhouse by providing the Department of Innovation & Technology with a cutting-edge computing facility that will allow the state's infrastructure to continue modernizing and evolving."

"Elements of this project will include the construction of a Tier III Central Computer Facility, which will be located in the Springfield area," said CDB Executive Director Jim Underwood. "The Capital Development Board looks forward to working with Exp U.S. Services due to their experience and expertise with similar building type and use."

"As we plan for the future, a secure and modern data center is essential to accommodating rapidly evolving technology to meet the needs of state agencies," said Jennifer Ricker, Acting Secretary for the Department of Innovation & Technology. "Advancing the Central Computing Facility project is critical to strengthening the digital infrastructure for the State of Illinois."

"The announcement of design firm for the new $80 million Central Computing Facility is very welcomed news for state government and the workforce of Springfield. As technologies continually advance, it is critical for state supported infrastructure to keep pace with that evolution to ensure our essential services continue unimpeded," said State Senator Doris Turner (D - Springfield). "I'm encouraged by our leadership for recognizing this, and I'm thankful the Rebuild Illinois capital plan is making these investments for our future."

"The new Central Computing Facility in Springfield is going to be a project we can all reference when discussing worthwhile public investment. All of state government relies on Central Management Services to have the tools needed to perform at their highest level, and computer information services is something states must remain on the forefront of," remarked State Representative Sue Scherer (D - Decatur). "I look forward to seeing this new state-of-the art facility and its contribution to all of our work."

The historic Rebuild Illinois capital plan passed with bipartisan super-majorities and will invest $45 billion in roads, bridges, railways, universities, early childhood centers, and state facilities like the new crime lab and veterans' homes, creating and supporting an estimated 540,000 jobs over the life of the six-year plan and revitalizing local economies across the state.
