Statement by Congressman Kildee on Potential Union Election Tampering at GM Factory in Mexico

Statement

Date: April 24, 2021
Location: Flint, MI

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, issued the following statement in response to reports of a criminal complaint and union election voting irregularities at a General Motors plant in Silao, Mexico:

"I am concerned about reports of tampering with union election results at a General Motors factory in Mexico. Workers should be able to choose, without interference from corporations or sham protection unions, whether they want to form a union. We must work to ensure that the labor rights of Mexican workers are not violated. General Motors should condemn any violation of Mexican law or workers' rights.

"As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I am committed to working with the Biden administration to implement and fully enforce the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement."
