Statement

Date: May 11, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds.

"Each new FDA authorization on COVID-19 vaccines is a step forward in defeating this terrible virus," said Guthrie. "I'm thrilled there's a COVID-19 vaccine that is safe and effective for ages 12 to 15. This advancement adds another reason to why schools should be open and allow students the opportunity to learn in-person full time. I encourage everyone to roll up their sleeve to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their family and their community from COVID-19 and its variants."

Previously, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine was only authorized under the FDA's emergency use authorization (EUA) for ages 16 and older.
